Doctors at the Kimbe General Hospital, today presented a petition to West New Britain Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel over the rise in attacks on doctors.
They say, recent attacks by youths caused fear among the doctors. They want the West New Britain Provincial Government to act swiftly in addressing the problem. The doctors said that if nothing is done, they would transfer to other provinces.
The Kimbe Nurses Association and Doctors Association have also supported the call for the investigation and arrest of those involved in the attacks.
In the petition, the doctors want stringent and tough measures put in place to guarantee doctors safety and welfare. The points of providing closed user group mobile phone service or CUG’s, pickups and drop offs, and other inhouse issues be solved by the hospital management.
West New Briatin Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel says a special Provincial Executive Council will be held to address these issues.
Governor Muthuvel said the attack upsets him because doctors play a vital role in saving the people with their health services.
He wants the police to act the investigations and arrest those involved.
Police in Kimbe say that there is a team in place to make the arrests and that suspects are known to them. The attacks took place at Section 21, in Kimbe town.
