Developing the Nation through Sports

The Papua New Guinea Olympics Committee apart from their main pursuit of seeing Team PNG compete at the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, and Pacific Games, also recognises the value of how sports can also contribute to the development of the nation.

Deputy Secretary of PNG Olympics Committee, Andrew Lepani says the introduction of two programs, ‘Love your Coast’ and the Olympics ‘Value Education’ Program, are two ways of informing athletes and coaches to pass on vital knowledge in their communities, as ambassadors.

While delivering the Olympics ‘Value Education’ program, athletes are also able to teach the young ones in the country on how to protect their coastal areas, through the Olympics ‘Love Your Coast’ program.

The program is slowly entering its third year and PNGOC will continue to run programs as such for up and coming athletes around the country.

Team PNG’s Heroes Program is also successfully entering two years of operation.

The program focuses on life after sports and also getting the athletes to feel comfortable by steeping outside the box or their comfort zones.
