A group of journalists from the Asia Pacific region have described the Timor-Leste experience as a positive one.
It was the first familiarisation trip organised by the Embassy of the Democratic of Timor-Leste in Canberra, Australia.
The program brought together journalists from Australia, PNG, Fiji, Vietnam, and Brunei.
The program involved the journalists getting versed with ongoing developments of the newest country in South East Asia.
Infrastructure development is high on the Timorese government’s agenda. The visitors were taken to sites in Suai District where massive bridges, aerodromes and an expressway is currently being built. This is in preparation for the South Coast Project.
Timor-Leste has set up its Sovereign Wealth Fund. The facility is a good example for Papua New Guinea to have a mission to travel there to study their set up.
The journalists said the experience was educational.
Timor-Leste Prime Minister, Rui Maria de Araujo also commended PNG for taking a bold step to host one of the most important meetings in the world – APEC 2018. Timor-Leste is keen to attend the meeting to be an observer.
