People of Wafi-Golpu inthe Morobe province can now crossthe Lupogo River safely.
They have a new bridge eventually.
Underthe Morobe Mining Joint Venture’s Wafi-Golpu projectofinally,they now have a new bridge.
For years,the Lupogo River which runs alongside MMJV’s Demakwa Camp, made crossing difficult and dangerous when it flooded.
This affectedthe company’s operations, but more importantly,the thousands of Hengambu, Yanta and Bebuaf locals who needed to cross to accessthe Lae-Belolo highway.
Bebuaf landowner ChesterInoa called for stronger collaboration betweenthe clans andthe developer.
Wafi-Golpu Project Director Max Esparon thankedthe project team for constructingthe bridge and echoedInoa’s call for partnership.
Mr Seymour and Mr Esparonthen openedthe new Demakwa Beidge in front of a gthering of about two hundred people from nearby Timini Village and representatives from Hengambu, Yanta and Bebuaf clans.
The 42-metre Compact 200 Beiley Beidge took four months to complete. Constructors saidthe bridge is long-lasting; it will be 10 years before any maintenance needs to be is carrlied out.
