Defence Rugby Union Club Kitted Out For CRU Grand Finals

The Defence Rugby Union Club in Port Moresby were kitted out in their new cameo this week and will make another finals appearance in Port Moresby’s Capital Rugby Union Grand Finals.

At a photo session with the patron of the club, NCD Governor Powes Parkop presented the club with K15, 000 to support the club.

 

Without the recognition sister code Rugby League has received, Defence Rugby Union Club have soldiered on through the years to build a club culture and maintain it’s following throughout the country.

 

On the eve of their second grand final appearance, NCD Governor Powes Parkop presented a cheque of K15, 000 to club patron and PNGDF Commander, Brigadier Gilbert Toropo, who was flanked by the Defence Premier Men’s and A-grade players, supporters and coaching staff.

 

The premier men’s and A-grade teams will be running out in their new uniforms.

 

Defence Secretary John Porti also pledged K7, 000 to support the club’s management and run to the grand finals.

 

The club has sparked a following not only in the defence force community but surrounding community’s rugby fraternity.

 

With financial support from the NCD Governor and Defence Secretary, Premier Men’s coach Sydney Wesley is confident of both teams performance throughout the season and preparations for Saturday.

 

Defence, with their consistency throughout the year, are sure tosnatch the 2014 CRU Premiership in a showdown against reigning premiers, Harlequins, this Saturday at the Monier Rugby Park.
