Cricket PNG has received five nominations, for the prestigious 2015 SP Sports Awards.
Leading batsman and Barramundi, Lega Siaka, was announced as one of the nominees in Male Athlete of the Year. He earned PNG’s first century against Hong Kong and added three more on tour last year.
2014 was also a year of firsts, as Cricket PNG rolled out their all-inclusive program, Kriket Blo Olgeta.
The program opened new opportunities for the involvement of people with special needs and women; and has been nominated for the Community Sports Initiative Award.
Cricket PNG has also been nominated in four other categories.
Cricket Umpire, Alu Kapa for Sports Official of the Year; Cricket PNG General Manager, Greg Campbell a nominee in the Sports Photo of the Year; national regional champions, Team Morobe Cricket, for National Performance of the Year; and the PNG Barramundis for Team of the Year.
The nominations reflect Cricket PNG’s continued push for development, of sports nationwide; thus, adding to the milestone of success in PNG’s world ranking of 15.
Other notable milestone achievements include ‘One-Day-International’ status and retaining the South Australia Cricket Association trophy.
