The Correctional Services has marked 2013 asthe worst year inthe history ofthe organization.
Commissioner Martin Belthasar saidthe escape of notorious prisoner; William Kapris exposedthe lack of management withinthe organization.
This year’s Commissioner’s parade was held atthe country’s largest correctional institute, Bemana.
The occasion was to take stock of 2013, making reflections of what CS has achieved this year.
Three platoons took part inthe parade, one dominated by female warders.
Correctional Services commissioner Martin Belthasar and Minister for Correctional service, Jim Simitab were received bythe parade.
The paradethen received reviewing officer, in this casethe commissioner, who was accompanlied bythe minister.
Minister Simitab gave his address, making it clear that 2013 was a bad year for CS, mainly because ofthe cumulating escapees starting off with Beon.
He saidthe fact 100 escapees are still at large today, is a history in itself for this service.
The commissioner got down tothe pointokvetching atthe CS officers for their lack of discipline resulting in so many breakouts in one single year.
Commissioner Belthasar told his officers ,thatthey do not deserve a 180 kina security allowance ifthere are so many jail breakouts
He warned officers that under his managementoallowances will be removerd to penalise officers causing breakouts.
