Controversial Appointmen’s for Provincial Administrators

By Fabian Hakalits – EM TV, Port Moresby

Temporary appointmen’s have been announced for the positions of Provincial Administrators in three provinces.

According to Secretary for the Department of Personnel Management, John Kali, these appointmen’s are for East Sepik, Sandaun and Western provinces.

Secretary Kali says these appointmen’s will go before the proper selection process as required under the Public Service Management and Administration Act 2014.

In East Sepik, the Provincial Administrator’s position is vacant.

The incidents happened after the acting administrator took a court order, restricting the national government from making any new appointmen’s.

In Sandaun, the sidelining of Provincial Administrator Henry Norman is improper because of the procedures dealing with allegations against him.

Any serious allegation against the administrators, requiremen’s of the contracts and law, the Governor must state the allegations labeled against, and ask for a response.

The appointment of Western province, acting administrator has expired; however will continue to remain in office.

Mr Kali said that all positions will be advertised and go through proper selection procedure for final substantive appointmen’s.
