A contract was signed today between the State and the contractor for the Menyamya Hydro Project.
The project is worth over K16 million and is expected to benefit over 80,000 people in the Menyamya District of the Morobe Province.
Member for Menyamya, Benjamin Philip, was present at the Government House this morning to witness the signing of the contract for the Hydro Project.
The signing was between the State, represented by Dr. Clement Waine, acting Secretary for Department of Public Enterprise & State Investments and Jimmy Poh from the Contractor, Jurudaya Construction (PNG) Limited.
Mr Philip said the Project took 20 years to get to this stage and when completed, the Project will steer in more new developments to the district.
Dr. Clement also said the Project was a long time coming and it will see more services provided to the rural areas of the district.
The Contractor, Jurudaya Construction (PNG) Limited, said work on the Hydro Project will begin immediately and will take 12 months to complete.
