Rogue Police Personnel Penalised by Commander Buka in Mendi

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Southern Highlands

Mendi Police Station Commander, Peter Buka, says tough police discipline is critical for the country’s police force.

Commander Buka says the public will abide and respect the law, only if there is discipline in the force.

Law enforcement in Southern Highlands Province has been a problem for the past 10 years.

Heavy presence of police and defence personnel has had no effect as crime related incidents took stall.

But recently appointed Mendi Police Station Commander, Peter Buka, says putting stringent measures and allowing justice to take its course on rogue police officers is vital.

He made these comments after penalising four rogue police officers stationed in Mendi.

Commander Buka says, the behavior of police officers has painted a bad picture of the force, but Mendi police are ready to change that and create a better relationship with the public.

Foot beat patrols and community policing are two current operations Mendi police are engaged in.
