The clan vetting project undertaken bythe Department of Petroleum and Energy has been hailed a success.
Hiwa clan lLeadersinthe PDL 1 area have unanimously elected Larry Andagali asthe chairman for Hiwa block afterthe clan vetting exercise concludedthere.
Mr Andagali was elected unopposed bythe 9 Hiwa clan lLeadersat Juni in Hides last tuesday. He will now representthe Hiwa block of PDL 1. This block holdsthe highest percentage of 37 per cent inthe benefit’share in PDL1.
Mr Andagali thankedthe Department of Energy and Petroleum to finally conclude clan vetting in this area, a process which was started 4 years ago.
He admitted that it wasn’t an easy task to deal with land ownership and clan issues. He said his election andthe identification of 9 ther clan lLeaderswithinthe Hiwa block is a step forward in establishingthe Gas Resources Hides PDL 1, a company which will managethe royalty and equity benefits for the PDL 1 landowners.
There are five ther blocks in PDL 1 License area andtheir respective chairmen will be elected bytheir block clans who will eventually formthe Gas Resources PDL 1 board.
Before this company is established, Andagali raised concerns aboutthe current trust arrangements under MRDC. He also wants to see thatthe distribution of royalties and equity payments reach people through his lLeadersip.
