Businessman and city resident, Michael Kandiu, has questioned the roles and responsibilities of City Rangers in the Nation’s Capital.
This comes after truckloads of City Rangers collaborated with workers of a private contractor responsible for rubbish collection, entered his home and attacked his guards and terrorized Mr Kandiu’s relatives.
The incident occurred after workers from the garbage contractor had been refusing to collect rubbish from Mr Kandiu’s house for weeks.
When EMTV visited Mr Kandiu’s residence after the attack, everything seemed normal but it was clear that he and his relatives were traumatized at what had transpired in their yard. William and Willie were manning the residence front gate when the incident occurred.
Mr. Kandiu said the incident occurred because the contractor responsible for rubbish collection was deliberately by – passing his home for the past two to three – weeks and not collecting garbage.
Mr Kandiu questioned the roles and responsibilities of city rangers and their connection with the waste collection contractor. He said he will write a formal complaint to the Police Commissioner and the NCD Police Boss regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, NCD Governor Powes Parkop said he was not aware of the incident but confirmed that WasteCo Limited is the National Capital District Commission’s Waste Management Contractor.
The Proprietor of WasteCo Limited also claims that Mr Kandiu’s men assaulted his driver resulting in their retaliation attack. The contractor has also filed a police complaint with Boroko Police Station.
