Chinese Government transfers ownership of bus and fire truck fleet to PNG Government

By Theckla Gunga – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The Chinese Government has transferred the ownership of 94 brand new buses and fire trucks to the Papua New Guinea Government.

The donation is in support of Papua New Guinea hosting the 21 world leaders during the 2018 APEC Leaders’ Summit in November.

Minister responsible for APEC, Justin Tkatchenko and Chinese Ambassador to PNG, Zue Bing, signed documents in Port Moresby today for the transferral of ownership.

The fleet are all lined up and ready to transport APEC delegates upon arrival, with the fire trucks also on standby to respond to fire emergencies.

The PNG Government is grateful for the continuous support by the Chinese Government towards the hosting of the 2018 APEC Summit.

This is by far, one of the biggest donations of fleets by another country to PNG.

The donation included 50 buses, 35 mini buses and nine fire trucks.

The donation of the fire trucks come at a time when the PNG Fire Service is struggling with its limited resources to fight fires in Port Moresby and other major centres, and these new vehicles will boost the Fire Department to replace most of its fire trucks, which have been used for over 30 years.
