The Cheshire Disability Services is expanding into the Southern Highlands Province.
Negotiations between Cheshire officials and authorities in the Ialibu-Pangia District have proved successful with the allocation of an office space provided by the leadership of the development authority, where the entire Highlands region programs will be initiated and coordinated, in the near future.
Local leaders and church members are welcoming the service and pledging their commitment to take ownership of the program, which they described as timely and a significant development milestone for the district.
A team of three Cheshire staff members met with over 100 officials from the district development authority, LLGs, ward councillors, health, education and church members, and representatives of persons with special needs, during the three day visit to the province.
Cheshire recognises that there has been a lack of service providers addressing disability issues such as comprehensive rehabilitation services in the district.
The Cheshire board and management have expressed gratitude towards Air Niugini whose long term contribution and commitment, as a logistics sponsor, will enable Cheshire services to reach out to all the provinces of PNG.
