A Task Force Team has been sent to research business opportunities inthe Agro Sector in Papua New Guinea
This Team will consist of representatives fromthe Agriculture and Livestock Sectors from Australia.
The team’s work is captured in a Four – Year Agreement betweenthe Cairns Chamber of Commerce andthPNG Government’signed recently.
The Cairns Chamber of Commerce assists local businesses resolve regional development issues through economic lobbying and representation. Another key activity ofthe Chamber includes mentoring businesses and connectingthem to appropriate contacts.
The Task Force Team will identify and do research on projects that havethe potential to develop and export produce overseas. One such isthe beef cattle industry where about 150, 000 cattle are expected to be sent to Australia.
This followsthe agreements signed betweePNG government and Queensland Premier Campbell Newman during his visit tPNG last month. DAL Acting Secretary Dr Vele Pat Ila’ava described it as a step forward for the Agriculture and LivestockIndustry.
