The body of the late South Bougainville MP, Steven Pirika Kama, arrived this morning from the Philippines.
Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, joined the family, wife Anna, children Michael and Pamela, friends, PNG Pest Control staff, airline workers and national government officials, in welcoming the body of the late MP.
The Prime Minister accorded the late MP a state welcome, at the Jacksons International Airport.
The late Kama was the Member of Parliament representing the people of Central Bougainville and also as Minister assisting the Prime Minister on Bougainville matters.
National Coordination Office of Bougainville Affairs Director, Ellison Towalom, said Kama’s death is a great loss to the people of Bougainville.
“He was a man of commitment and loyalty, serving the people of South Bougainville,” Towalom said.
The body of the late MP will lie at the funeral home, awaiting arrangements for the state funeral next week, before being flown to the Autonomous Region of Bougainville for burial.
The late MP died in the Philippines last Friday while seeking medical treatment.
