This year weightlifters throughout the region have a year full of competition.

2016 is jam-packed with numerous weightlifting competitions throughout the year for the region, which includes the biggest event of all, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in August.

From March to June there are four major competitions: the Australian Open International, Oceania Championships, the Commonwealth Championships, Olympic Games, and also an elite training camp.

General Secretary and Regional coach for the Oceania Weightlifting Federation, Paul Coffa, said they are preparing for the massive year and all the tournaments throughout it.

Weightlifters training at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute are preparing for the various competitions to represent their respective countries.

And the question remains if PNG weightlifting champion Steven Kari will compete, following his fall out with the PNG Weightlifting Federation and President, Sir John Dawanincura.
