Port Moresby Catholic Archbishop John Ribat has supported calls to have the King James version of the Bible placed in the Chambers of Parliament.
The call to have the 400-year0old bible in Parliament was made by Southern Highlands Governor William Powi, during the visit of the Bible to Mendi two weeks ago.
Bishop Ribat said having the bible in the country is historical, however, the word of God has been present in the country before the bible arrived three months ago.
“We know the word of God and we live it every day. This bible is not different from other versions of the bible that has been in our country for years,” Bishop Ribat said.
“If this [Bible] is placed in Parliament then it’s a reminder and a symbol to us, all especially our leaders, that they must be an example to bring about change to our country,” Ribat said.
