Basil on DSIP Curse

The District Services Improvement Program (DSIP) has been described as being a curse on PNG.

Deputy Opposition Leader and Bulolo MP, Sam Basil, claimed that government is using the DSIP funds to lure support from politicians, particularly the back benchers.

Mr. Basil made these remarks in a conference today, he also revealed that the next K3 million DSIP funds for Bulolo district was released recently; however, it’s parked in the Morobe Provincial Treasury Office.

He said this will take 6 months for the JDP & BC to have access to it.

He said this political mishap had resulted in the poor delivery of services for the people of Bulolo district in the year 2013.

He said that it will take another two weeks for his district treasurer to say the money has gone in and call for another JDP to expand the money. The timing will take another three to six months for him to access the funds.

He also said that Minister for Finance, James Marape, has done a good job by making it hard for him to access the funds.
