There will be a split in commands for Regional Divisions nationwide, in a step to push for effective policing.
This was one of the statements made by the newly appointed Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, at the opening of a new Highway Patrol office in Ramu today.
Commissioner Baki said its been forty years, a lot has changed and so changes need to be done to the Police Department too.
“A region is quite a big area for only one regional commander to operate effectively so I will be making changes like these, so that officers are given equal responsibilties,” he said.
“The matter in its current stage is uncontrollable,as any shop is selling clothes similar to police uniforms.”
The Commissioner also mentioned that he’s not for the idea of having so many new uniforms in the police department, as that complicates the identification of officers assigned for certain duties. He added that he has tasked his officers to start working on samples of three different types of uniforms, that will point out who is who from the officers.
“I am bringing back the uniform committee,” he said.
Commissioner Baki was also strong on the conduct of police officers, stressing that there may be police brutality in some cases, but that goes back to the attitude of police officers towards the public, while in uniforms.
“I will be making sure that internal directory of every department within the force is given a lift. It’s a big call but its nothing if all the officers work together.”
