A special leaders meeting was held this morning for Baimuru elites in Gulf and Port Moresby.
The meeting was held purposely to draft Baimuru District position in regard to the development of the Elk Antelope Project.
Baimuru LLG Deputy President Omaro Yarara is now calling on the Gulf Provincial and the National Government to respect and work with the people. Yarara said for far too long Baimuru people have fallen back and look upon others to make decisions.
Mr Yarara who is also the Chairman of Petroleum and Mining in Baimuru LLG says equal participation and effective consultation with stakeholders in this project is very essential.
The meeting also saw the election of a Baimuru Technical team who will draft their position and find a way forward for the best interest of the Baimuru people, Gulf Provincial Government, National Government and developer Inter Oil.
The meeting was organized by the Baimuru LLG and was attended by the 9 main tribes of Baimuru and representatives from the 23 Ward Councils in the LLG.
