Australia Reviews Program

The Australian Government is committed to improve the lives of people with disability, as part of its aid program.

A review of the disability strategy consultation program, will also cater for future international development partners.

People with special needs are the world’s largest and most disadvantaged minority, accounting for fifteen per cent of the global population.

A strategy review workshop was recently held in Port Moresby. Its objective was to seek stakeholders’ input into the Australian Government’s new strategy for Disability Inclusive Development.

Assistant Counsellor Governance, Jo Ronalds, said the new disability strategy for Australia’s aid program, will be developed in a key partnership with stakeholders.

The strategy provides an opportunity to consolidate recent gains, and generate shared priorities for future efforts that reflects on the approach ‘Development for All’.

Ronalds said participation and leadership of people living with disability is central to the strategy development process that will generate shared priorities for future efforts.

Performance indicators for measuring success will be an important consideration in developing the new 2015 Disability Strategy.
