Preparations for the National Netball Championship in Alotau, Milne Bay province are progressing on schedule, with competition to commence following the independence weekend.

Preparations and reconstruction of the volleyball and netball courts are happening in earnest, and will be in tip-top shape for the competition’s commencement.

The Alice Wadiga Oval has now been reshaped, upgraded and reconstructed to host future tournaments. A mini stadium with a seating capacity of approximately 400 people is under construction.

DSIP funds of K600,000 were used to reconstruct the netball and volleyball courts.

Local MP, Charles Abel, said after the championships they will be constructing a roof over the courts.

He said improving sporting infrastructures in the provinces, LLGs and villages are a vital part of the new Medium Term Development Plan 2.

Abel encourages LLGs to organise games in cluster groups, and those selected can play in district and provincial games where selectors can the choose potential candidates to compete internationally.
