IALIBU – PANGIA IN NEED OF PROPER ROAD SERVICES

By Vicky Baunke

More than ten thousand people in the East Pangia local level government in the Yalibu Pangia district in Southern Highlands Province are in need of proper road services after so many years.

The people’s concerns were raised by East Pangia LLG spokesperson Mackley Akipe following the construction of a man made bridge linking the three council ward areas of Molo 1, Napene and Alia as an initiative by the community members.

This includes the building of two timber made bridges over the Bua river and Wara Ipe located in the East Pangia LLG by members of the community.

Mr. Akipe said the people are in need of road services as an important service that will pave way for other essential government services from reaching the area such as health and education.

He said over the years the road carries with it unfortunate stories of loss of lives along the way to reach health services at Pangia including the sick, wounded and pregnant women.

Akipe explained that it took people 6 to 8 hours to reach Pangia station and then to travel into Mt Hagen to access essential services.

Mr. Akipe appealed to the Yalibu Pangia DDA under the leadership of Yalibu Pangia MP Peter O’Neil to look into the need of the people East Pangia after what is many years of neglected road services.
