National carrier Air Niugini today announced a thirty per cent discount for all athletes and officials travelling to Lae for the 6th PNG Games next month.
An agreement was signed with the PNG Sports Foundation to assist with air fares for over 7, 000 participants flying into Lae.
PNG Sports Foundation Executive Director Peter Tsiamalili Jr, when signing the agreement, said with difficulties in logistics experienced from the last PNG Games held in Kokopo, bringing on board the airline will ensure travel to and from Lae is orderly.
The executive director said there will be systems in place to ensure that only accredited athletes and officials will benefit from this special airfare.
Air Niugini’s general manager for customer and markets, Dominic Kaumu said Air Niugini is working closely with PNG Games organisers and adhering to its obligation as a service provider.
Air Niugini port managers and staff will only allow those on the accreditation lists provided by the provincial team managers, identified by photographs.
Learning from past experiences, the discount will apply to the purchase of return tickets and is valid for a month from the date of purchase.
The PNG Sports Foundation is urging all provinces to finalise their teams and ensure they are all accredited to participate.
This accreditation list will be sent to Air Niugini so that flights may be scheduled for all athletes and officials to attend the opening ceremony on Sunday, 16th of November.
