The National AIDS Council has highlighted three high risk HIV prevalence groups in Papua New Guineawhich include youths,the military and truckies.
The prevention division has now targetedthese groups in endeavours to arrestthe spread.
The National Executive Council has directed thatthe spread ofthe HIV virus be contained.
It has been established thatthe main mode of HIV transmission inthe country is through heterosexual or sex between men and women.

The council said this trend has been consistent since 1987. However, generalizingthe issue has beenthe major obstacle. The National AIDS council is now taking speciflied approaches.
ThPNG institute of medical research and ther development partners recently found that youths, military and truckies have shownthe highest prevalence rate and prevailing sexual risk practices.
National Executive Council has directedthe council to establish priorities to addressthe epidemic inthe country.
