AFLPNG held its level one accredited coaching clinic on Saturday, with over 50 coaches and participants from around the country.
AFL Community Football Operations Manager, Andrew Hughes, said the one day course aims to train and develop coaches at all levels to better understand and grow the code in the country.
The PNG men’s national side, the Mosquit’s, have set a benchmark in being the current International Cup winners and ranked first in the Oceania region, excluding Australia and New Zealand.
Although AFL is yet to achieve the popularity of sports such as rugby league here in PNG, the achievement of the Mosquit’s has set an example of well-developed programs set in place by PNGAFL that have raise the standard of the game.
However, the involvement of women in the AFLPNG competition has increased dramatically from last year, which is a positive sign of growth in AFL development programs for coaches and players.
