Papua New Guinea will open-up new international airline routes in 2016.

Acting Culture and Tourism Minister, Charles Abel, says tourists will fly directly to Gurney, Mt Hagen and Tokua to begin.

Mr Abel says arrangements between Air Niugini are underway to see government’s plan to see these tourism zones become reality.

“Tourism in PNG will see a whole new level of playing field for tourists who wish to visit Papua New Guinea in future”, Minister Abel said.

“Under government’s plan there will be direct flights into East New Britain, Milne Bay and Western Highlands”, Abel added. “The test flight into Gurney last month was a success and its proven this routes will be a success in the coming years”, Minister Able said.

The acting Culture and Tourism Minister said major announcements will be done in 2016 to improve tourism access.

With the National Airport’s Corporation’s CADIP Program becoming a handful, and with major changes in provincial airports, Minister Abel is confident tourism will reach new heights.

Tourists figures are predicted to increase once these routes are opened.
