PNGRFL will be pushing to have more test matches in coming years.
They say there are not enough test matches for Papua New Guinea, and are calling on the Rugby League International Federation to be more proactive in organising such matches.
This is a concern that will be raised when PNG RFL Chairman, Sandis Tsaka, goes for the Rugby League International Federation Annual General Meeting later this month.
He called on the Rugby League International Federation to step up in organising test matches, using the Melanesian Cup as an example to back his statement.
There are different types of test matches; a test match can be a second tier team from Papua New Guinea playing another second tier from any country, like the Melanesian Cup.
The PM’s XIII match can also be classified as a test match once sanctioned, or a Kumuls test match which involves PNG’s Elite rugby league players.
Tsaka says the RLIF has to come up with an international window to allow PNG’s elite players to take part in more test matches.
Other issues will be raised at the RLIF AGM, like the eligibility rule for PNG players, and also an international format for Rugby League 9’s.
