West Taraka Incomplete Road Needs Funding

The second phase of construction work on the 2.6 Km West Taraka road is yet to be completed.

Lae City mayor Koim Trilu Leahy said, a submission of K1.2 million is now with Morobe Provincial Government for approval.

Leahy said the construction started last year and is on halt due to lack of funding from the National Government.

The K8.4 million reconstruction of this road was carried out by PNG Construction Limited last year and was half completed by September this year.

This road was last upgraded by the Huon Gulf district back in 1990s.

More than 20, 000 people will benefit from this upgraded 2.6 Km road including a health centre, schools and businesses existing in the area.

The first phase construction had started from the junction near the Bumbu Bridge to the back of West Taraka where the city’s water supply Southern Cross tanks are located.
