Goal Keeper, Lavina Hola’s Journey in Football

PNGs Under 20 Goal Keeper, Lavina Hola, is among the newest batch of the country’s future international players.

And the young woman is hoping, that her commitment and dedication to the national team, will earn her a spot for the Women’s World Cup in just under two months time.

In 2010, she made her first appearance in the red black and gold, travelling to Auckland New Zealand as part of the U15 PNG squad.

Two years later in 2012 she made her way into the senior national team, that same year, travelling again to New Zealand with the U17 National team and in 2014 she again represented the country, this time with the U20 side.

She did not however, feature during PNGs triumph in their one nil victory over New Caledonia, during the Pacific Games.

The feeling of excitement overwhelming when she learned of her selection into the current Under 20 squad.

She began her career however, as an outfield player, with the choice of Goal Keeper, made by Head Coach, Lisa Cole.

Her respect for her coach Lisa Cole, similar to that of her other teammates.

Whilst having had opportunities to travel and play overseas, one of the biggest challenges was playing at home.

Papua New Guinea has been placed in Pool A.

Alongside Brazil, Sweden, and the Peoples Republic of Korea, all of whom will provide exceedingly difficult challenges.
