PNG Games Athletics Regulations

Though the PNG Games have been deferred, and schedules are disrupted, regulations for some sporting bodies still stand.

Following the endorsement by the Sport Technical Advisory Committee of the PNG Games, Athletics PNG has released rules for the athletics competition.

Athletics PNG President, Tony Green, said, elite athletes are restricted from participating.

Green said, every province is allowed to send a maximum of three athletes and that excludes PNG’s elite athletes.

And all may participate in no more than three events.

President Green added, it is very important to the majority of National squad athletes, who do not get enough competition opportunities, to be allowed to take part.

He said, those who already have sufficient opportunities to compete, will be restricted.

These elite athletes are Olympians Toea Wisil and Theo Piniau, Rellie Kaputin, Donna Koniel, Peniel Richard and Adrine Monagi.

With the recent announcement of the Games Deferral by the Sports Minister, the initial competition dates set by Athletics PNG will now change.

The competition categories are by: 400m hurdles, the 100m heats, long distance, and qualifying heats in the 4 x 400m relay.

The athletics competition will wind down with a full track and field session, and the Half Marathon run.

Green stressed that no one under the age of 17, will be permitted to run the half marathon, and athletes will be required to show proof of age, if challenged.
