Positive Reactions to 2016 Enga Show

Engans have expressed their satisfaction with the turnout for the three day cultural show held in the Highland province over the weekend.

For the first time in many years, the Enga Show contained only Engan groups. There were positive reactions to the show from those who attended.

The intention of the Enga Show is to preserve and maintain their culture. Show organisers pointed out that the traditional arts that once thrived are now being revived.

Headdresses, grass shirts and kundus are being made with the knowledge of the arts being passed on to secondary school students who participated over the weekend.

The event was also used by Governor Peter Ipatas to address the lingering issue of the recent murder of Southern Highlands Unitech student Graham Romanong. Students were called on to take responsibility and make peace before classes resume in September.

While the murder is being investigated by police,  the Engan community has been called upon to make peace with their neighbours and the family of the slain student.
