Armed Robbery on Highlands Highway

Morobe Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Augustine Wampe, has confirmed reports of an armed robbery of a shop located at the 40 mile market along the Highlands Highway.

Police believe seven armed men held up the shop’s security guards and stole K5,000 in total of both cash and flex cards.

The suspects are not known. Police are investigating and say the men were armed with high powered guns. An AR15 and two shotguns were used to attack the shop’s security guards who were stationed at the entrance.

The armed men forced their way in and stole K2,000 in cash and K3,000 worth of flex cards.

Chief Superintendent Wampe says the suspects used two 10-seater vehicles to flee the scene.

One was blue and the other, white. Wampe says one of the vehicles was used to keep an out for police while the other was used as a getaway vehicle.

There was a police car from Zifasing at the 40 mile area sometime before the crime occurred. Police believe the crime must have been committed straight after the police vehicle left the scene.

Police believe that the criminals may have had an informant who provided them information.
