After a spectacular opening yesterday, the first day of the Rio Olympics saw hundreds of spectators cheer for their individual athletes.
The competition saw soccer kicking off in the women’s division, with host nation Brazil taking on Sweden. And in swimming, Australia’s Mark Horton won Australia’s first gold.
Brazil led the game at half time, after their first goal in the 20th minute.
At full time Brazil proved to be the strongest side, winning 5-1.
In swimming, both men’s and women’s and relay action saw some impressive times, with numerous world records broken.
In the men’s 400m freestyle Australia’s very own Mack Horton won the first gold for Australia, with China taking home silver.
In the women’s 400m individual medley, Hungarian Katinka Hosszu, took gold after setting a world record in a time of 4:26.36.
