Tourism Promotion Office to be Established in Simbu

Simbu Province has entered an agreement with the Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) to have an office in the province.

Despite hosting PNG’s highest mountain, Mt.Wilhem, the province has never had a TPA office.

The Simbu Provincial Government has realised the importance of this industry therefore it has finally agreed to establish this important office in the province.

The agreement was signed by Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture and member for Kundiawa Gembogl, Tobias Kulang, in Kundiawa yesterday.

Minister Kulang told hundreds in Kundiawa to embrace this important opportunity as tourism is a money-making industry.

“Papua New Guinea should move away from the mineral sector and concentrate on this sleeping giant, the tourism industry. The national government must invest in this industry for the long run. When oil, gas and gold are gone, tourism industry will sustain this young nation,” Minister Kulang said.

He said it is now his duty to make sure the government realises this important industry and invests more in this sector.
