Ward Councillors Paid

Department of Local and Provincial Government Affairs (DLPGA) Acting Secretary, Dickson Guina, announced the payment of long delayed monthly allowances for ward members or councillors.

A total of K7 million released by the government was deposited by DLPGA into their respective bank accounts today.

A total of 6,187 ward members, or councillors, from the 319 electorates across the country will receive their long delayed monthly allowances from the national government.

Guina said there two lots of payments were made on the rate of K400 per month from 2015 to 2016.

K4,800 was paid for those councillors missed out last year for the period of January to December. K1,200 was paid for the period of January to March 2016.

All appointed female representatives will also be paid by their respective LLG’s on the same rate. This follows the Policy Directive and the Circular Instruction issued by the department as sanctioned by the government.

Guina said despite an economic downturn, the government has listened to the due diligence and cries of LLG leaders to address their welfare.

Councillors are asked to check their bank accounts and confirm receipt of payment.
