High Performance is Key

Marking two years in operation, the PNG High Performance Training Centre in Port Moresby has undisputedly contributed to the high level of training and enhancement of sporting workouts, and general improvement in athlete’s performances.

The results have shown greatly in the performance of athletes in numerous international events, most notably being the recent Pacific Games in 2015.

The High Performance team in Port Moresby headed by Director, Aaron Alsop, is made up of people with specific roles and complementary talents and skills to achieve superior results to outperform expectations.

All sporting codes have athletes that want to take things to the next level, and a dedicated sporting unit that encompasses the concept of the code is important.

The plan to build a K30 million building specifically for high performance training is somewhat a dream come true for most athletes in PNG.

The design of the newly built High Performance Centre of Excellence is soon to be out for tender, the project is said to be completed by the end of 2017 and once completed it will hone on the athlete’s enactment in winning more medals for PNG on a global scale.

The inclusion of health workers such as a physiotherapist shows the unit is expanding in all areas of sports, such as running programs aimed to build capacity of coaches and administrators that will help the athletes.

The involvement of sports science, sports medicine and coaches knowing their roles to mentor athletes is a major factor.
