Pacific Northwest Gigapop (PNWGP) has established a 100-Gigabit per second (Gbps) Research and Education network link between Asia and the US to broaden research and education capabilities.
This was announced by the Pacific Wave Project and is said to be the world’s first 100-Gigabit per second research and education network.
With plans to advancing research and education through the use of network, the establishment of the 100-Gigabit per second (Gbps) Research and Education network will solve some of the challenges and problems encountered by researchers and educators across the globe.
According to Greg Bill, Director of the Scientific Networking Division at Lawrence Berkkeley National Laboratory in Carlifornia and Director of the Energy Science Network (ESnet), “This milestone is great news”, and will help to solve difficult problems through global collaboration.
The 100Gbps capability will be provided by Pacific Wave to the National Scence Foundation (NSF) funded International Network Connections TransPAC4 Project, which is led by Indiana University.
The establishment of these advanced networking will help to fast-track progress in both research and education, and help the global academic community improve both in speed and sophistication.
