The newly sworn in University of Goroka Interim Council has appointed an Acting Vice Chancellor.
In a number of decisions in its first council meeting, the members appointed Associate Professor, Dr John Kola, as the new Acting Vice Chancellor.
Interim Chancellor, Joseph Sukwianomb, said the council is conscious to establish normalcy and stability in the running of the University.
Chancellor Sukwianomb stated that the council considered several candidates to take up the post in this period of bridging the gaps between parties and re-establish public confidence and build the University.
Sukwianomb said the council believes Dr Kola will commence his duties without fear or favour.
Dr Kola will hold office until the completion of the investigation by an independent team into the allegations levelled against the previous administration, is complete.
The newly appointed Vice Chancellor made known that there is a possibility of extending the semester so students can complete the 2015 academic year.
The announcement was made this afternoon by Interim Chairman, Joseph Sukwianomb, in front of the newly interim council members at the University library.
