by Fabian Hakalits – EM TV, Port Moresby

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill will officiate at the 2015 Joint Supervisory Body of the national and Autonomous Bougainville governments.

The meeting, to be held in Arawa in Kieta tomorrow, will see both governments enter into mediation and discuss important issues surrounding the referendum and decide on Bougainville’s future political status.

Bougainville Chief Secretary Monovi Amani, in a statement, said the meeting is important as it will chart waters for a referendum to be reached between 2015 and 2020.

Former Acting Chief Secretary Chris Siriosi, who is leading the Referendum Committee, pointed out that the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) must now focus on executing the referendum for the people of Bougainville.

The national and Autonomous Bougainville governments must be serious and work in consultation to establish an effective framework.

Siriosi said both governments must agree and set a date for the referendum.
