Another ash flow from the volcano on Manam island, said to be heavier than the flow last Friday, has taken place this morning.
The previous ashfall was measured to be 5cm above the ground and with this morning’s heavy flow; the thickness is likely to have more than doubled.
Unlike last time, no stones have been reported to be endangering the local populace.
The ash flow has had dire effects on the local community, contamainating water and burning food sources.
People in the area are currently surviving off breadfruits for food and coconuts for water, and according to estimations they will run out by next week.
The Manam Islanders are calling on the government for immediate relocation and relief supplies.
