Parts of the Madang – Ramu Highway have been damaged by heavy rains.
The rains caused a landslip near the Kawawar market, and the Naru River, to swell. The swelling created severe damage, making it dangerous for vehicles and people travelling along the highways to Madang, Lae and the Highlands.
The rains have also caused a slurry pipeline for the Ramu NiCo project to be exposed.
Currently, vehicles are using one lane of the road, as the other half has been washed away.
Ramu NiCo is using its own resources to rectify damage caused, and locals from villages are assisting with road repairs by filling stone baskets.
The travelling public has been warned to slow down while passing through the damaged section.
Recently, the Vice President of Ramu NiCo, Mr. Wang Baowen, inspected the work being carried out by the Pipeline Section and commended the men for the job they are doing.
Ramu NiCo also uses the road to bring its supply from Madang.
