Fiji to the Pacific Games

by Shane Saroya – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Team Fiji is gearing up for this year’s Pacific Games, with its athletes focusing to finish on top of the medal tally.

Although the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee has been struggling with financial support, the body remains positive of the outcome of their performance.

With a stellar showing at the 2011 Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia, Fiji won 130 medals in total and is certain to maintain its dominance in this year’s Pacific Games.

Swimming is one of the sports that has been identified as Fiji’s best chance to reel in the most number of medals, along with Athletics and the codes of soccer, rugby 7s and netball.

In line with that, the Fiji Sports Awards in March will recognise Fiji’s best, many of whom will be among contenders for medals.

A big Fijian contingent is expected to arrive in the country in time for the Games, bringing with them their flavour and diverse culture.
