While global climate change and effects continue to affect nations one after the other, concerns have been increasingly rising for relief assistance and humanitarian assistance to support, save and help those that are affected.
With efforts to coordinate population movements in the Pacific region, a plan to setting up an international body has been created, however, has been opposed by Australia even though countries including Britain, the US and France were open to the concept.
These responses have raised repeated calls from some of the Pacific nations at a summit in Kiribati.
With fear of the challenges they face with their population and cultures, Pacific nations including Fiji, Kiribati, Tuvalu and Tokelau in a joint statement said “they are gravely concerned over the lack of effective international response to climate change that now pose major challenges to their population as well as their cultures.”
The island nations have pleaded to wealthy countries to help those islanders who have migrated due to the consequences of climate change, and to find work to sustain a living.
