A comprehensive report for the disaster affected areas in Mendi Munhiu District in Southern Highlands Province were handed over to the PNG Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, yesterday.
The report was presented to the Prime Minister by District Administrator, James Embea.
The report outlines the magnitude of destruction and damaged caused by the frost and dryspell for the last 3 weeks in the Mendi Munhiu district.
Upon receiving the report, PM O’Neill said funding and relief supplies will depend entirely on the affected population.
Mr O’Neill said the District Administration will be responsible for coordination of funding and food rations.
“Your government will not let you down. We will continue to provide relief supplies to the affected areas till these natural disasters have subsided.
“It may take a while to get these supplies to you, but let me assure you that your government is currently doing its best to ensure that these basic supplies reach you,” PM O’Neill said.
The report was prepared and compiled by the district administration.
Over 50 thousand people were affected in Lai Valley, Upper Mendi and Karinj when frost fell, killing plants and most garden produce.
