Gulf Wants LNG to be Exported Directly from Province

by Michelle Amba – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Gulf Provincial government and landowners have rejected the developer’s intention to pipe gas out of Gulf province.

Gulf Governor Havila Kavo will be presenting their position to the national government with a set of precise recommendations.

They want LNG to be developed, processed and exported directly from Gulf Province.

Landowners and the Gulf provincial government have a united position, and that is to uphold a policy guideline, that being a no pipeline policy.

Governor Kavo said the recent announcement by the developer to pipe Gulf LNG out of the region will not be accepted by him, or the affected communities.

He said Gulf is a maritime province and its resource should be exported directly. He also noted that the developer’s intention to change the name of the project is also unacceptable.

They have asked for an audience with the Prime Minister to fully present their position.
