Gabba Champions Shield

By Dion Kombeng – EM TVSports, Port Moresby

Cricket PNG has launched the Gabba Championship Shield, a new first class cricket competition in Papua New Guinea.

The event is being run in association with Gabba Sporting Products.

The cricket community in PNG has been craving competition for two years now, following the unavailability of cricket turf pitches.

Not only this, it’s exciting to be able to see top cricketers from the country back in action.

Previously known as the Constantinou Shield, and the Hebou Shield, the Gabba Championship Shield will bring together the best male and female cricketers from around PNG, in T20, 50 over and two-day formats.

The Gabba Championship Shield will also be perfect preparation of both the Lewa’s and Barramundis as they prepare for international tournaments.

With such a competition in place, a good avenue for the upcoming talent within PNG can be recognized, and will no doubt elevate cricket PNG to greater heights.
