Binatangs Depart For Queensland State Championships

by Skola Sengi – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

A total of 20 new faces will make their debut this weekend for the Under-14 Binatangs in the U-14 Queensland State AFL Championships held in Brisbane, Australia.

12-year-olds Wayne Keu from Kimbe, and Kenneth Dalibe from Lae are among the new faces that have been selected into AFL PNGs academy after the staging of the National Regional Championships.

Last year, the Binatangs ended their campaign in fifth spot, however, they are aiming for a top three finish this time around.

Team Manager, Willie Yogomin, said “the boys have done very well in their training. We also had boys from outside who were training under their coaches, with a couple of them flying in on Wednesday and Thursday.”

“Most of them are new faces. We have three from each region. We have three from Kimbe, three from Kavieng, three from Lae and the rest from Port Moresby,” said Yogomin.

The Binatangs will be joined by the Brisbane-based Callum Harrison, and Coach Ben Drew. They depart today and will be accompanied by Assistant Coach Jeconiah Peni and Team Manager Willie Yogomin.

While this will be the first time for these young AFL prospects to travel overseas, AFL PNG encourages the country to get behind the team and support them in their campaign.
