Northern Governor, Gary Juffa, has commended Lae Open member, Loujaya Kouza, for standing up for the churches.
His comments come after Loujaya Kouza was sacked from the People’s National Congress Party.
The government has promised that certain percentage from the first LNG proceeds will be given to churches as tithes.
It was this question on the floor of parliament that placed Lae Open MP Loujaya Kouza at odds with the government.
“Basically, I was asking the government about its commitment to give one to two percent of the LNG proceeds as tithes to churches.”
Instead, she was given the sacking from the People’s National Congress Party.
Kouza on several occasions as the then Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion queried, whether the proceeds were already in the Kumul Church Trust Fund.
Several MP’s have come out in support of her boldness and condemned the manner of her sacking.
Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru said, it is a very disappointing and disgraceful act for PNC to sack a member who has given her commitment to the government and the party through representing the people of Lae.
Also Northern Governor described the sacking as unceremonious.
Churches continue to be key partners in the delivery of services in the most remote areas of Papua New Guinea were government presence is limited.
And the proceeds would have contributed significantly to their operations.
Northern Governor, Gary Juffa has joined his colleague in calling on the government to honor its commitment.
